גל הירש - שירת בצה"ל בתפקידי פיקוד במשך שלושה עשורים ופיקד על כוחות במבצעים ובמלחמות, הירש פיקד על בה"ד 1 - בית הספר לקצינים של צה"ל ועסק בחינוך ובעיצוב דמותם של קצינים רבים. לאחר שחרורו ייסד חברות ובמקיבל עסק בקידום מנהיגות עתידית.

סיפור מלחמה סיפור אהבה (2009)

"סיפור אהבה סיפור מלחמה" מספר על נעורים במדים, על מבצעים נועזים בשטח אויב, על בדידותו של מפקד במלחמה, על ערכים ועל משבר ערכים. סיפור קולח ומרתק על מסירוּת, על הקרבה, על זוגיות ומשפחה תחת אש.

תא"ל (מיל') גל הירש, יליד 1964, נשוי לדונה, אבא של מאורי, עופרי וניר, הקדיש את חייו להגנה על מדינת ישראל.

הוא פיקד על יחידות צנחנים, על "שלדג" - יחידת הקומנדו של חיל האוויר, והוביל לוחמים במבצעים שחלקם עדיין עלומים. ב-1998 נפצע קשה ממארב מחבלים, עבר שיקום ארוך, ושב לשרת, למרות נכותו הקשה.

בהמשך תיכנן את מבצע "חומת מגן" ולאחר שפיקד על בית הספר לקצינים מונה למפקד אוגדת הגליל. בתום מלחמת לבנון השנייה נאלץ לסיים את שירותו. יותר מאוחר ציינה ועדת וינוגרד כי התפיסה המבצעית שיזם הירש "הצביעה על הבנה נכונה של האיום [חטיפת חיילים] ומשמעויותיו, ועל היערכות מחשבתית ראויה מולו". עוד קבעה הוועדה כי במלחמה, אוגדת הגליל ביצעה את משימות ההשתלטות שלה על שטחים בהתאם למתוכנן. למרות ההערכה כלפיו כאחד הבולטים והמקוריים ממפקדי צה"ל, נאלץ לפרוש לאחר מלחמת לבנון השנייה.

הירש הוא בוגר אוניברסיטת בר-אילן בלימודי המזרח התיכון ובעל תואר שני במנהל עסקים מאוניברסיטת ת"א.
